Katie Allen, MPH, C-IAYT – School Director

Katie received her Masters in Public Health from Tulane University, specializing in chronic disease prevention and wrote her thesis on yoga’s ability to prevent and treat chronic diseases. Her focus is health edu- cation program design, implementation and evaluation. She received her yoga therapy training from LMU’s Yoga Therapy Rx Program with Larry Payne and has continued her studies with Robert Birnberg since 2008. Katie also spent a month at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai, India enrolled in a Yoga Sutras and Yoga Therapy certificate course.

Katie has taught over 12,000 hours of group class yoga and yoga therapy. She has been co-leading 200-hour teacher trainings since 2010 and leading 300-hour teacher trainings since 2012. She has trained and certified over 180 Yoga Alliance registered teachers and accumulated over 2500 hours of leading teacher trainings. She managed a wellness center for seven years and developed their yoga therapy department; which included program development, administration and evaluation. She developed the yoga therapy department for Newport Academy’s in-patient and out-patient facilities; which is a treatment facility for teens experiencing addiction and co-occurring disorders (2009-2014). She co-founded Be The Change Yoga in Orange County in 2013 with the intention of becoming Orange County’s center for higher education and yoga therapy. She currently oversees all levels of teacher training programs, as well as the yoga therapy department.

Most recently she has been working with hospitals and health systems to develop integrative yoga therapy programs for specific populations and health conditions. She has developed partnerships with Hoag Hospital’s Center for Healthy Living, as well as the Lestonnac Free Clinic in Orange. She has presented at SYTAR on ‘How to Develop and Market Comprehensive Yoga Therapy Programs in Clinical Settings.’
