Fundamentals: Meditation

April 22-23rd, 2017

This 10-hour Fundamental Weekend Intensive is led by Yoga Therapist Megan McCarver and provides the foundation for understanding different types of meditation practices and how to teach them to groups or individual students. This intensive will explore the nature of the mind and dive into different types of mental patterns and how to remedy them with specific meditation practices.

This intensive will focus on assessing and understanding various mental states which include: mudha (stupefied/dull), kshipta (disturbed), vikshipta (alternating between distraction and focus), ekagrata (one-pointed), nirodha (focus enveloped/ held/ restrained), vaishvanara (waking), taijasa (dream), prajña (deep sleep), turiya (beyond) and how to correctly apply meditation practices to pacify various states according to the needs of the individual student.

Please call the studio to pre-register (714) 417-9834. If trainees are enrolling in the entire 300hr Yoga Teacher Training Program, they will receive pre-registration pricing. We ask that trainees pre-register at least 3 days before the course to ensure we have enough trainees to run each course.

Megan Lurie McCarver, M.A., C-IAYT, and RYT E-500 has over 30 years of success in the Health and Wellness Industry including Stress Endurance Techniques, Meditations for Mindfulness and Therapeutic Yoga. Megan currently shares her expert talents guiding clients in modern lifestyles with yoga, awareness techniques and well-being for greater good. She is devoted to client-centered compassionate care.

Megan received her Master of Arts Degree – M.F.C.C in 1990 and completed her first 200-hour Hatha Yoga Instruction Certification shortly after at the White Lotus Foundation in Santa Barbara. She next completed a 200-hour Kundalini Training from Santa Monica Yoga. As a Massage Therapist for 12 years, she co-founded Santa Monica Yoga and Bodywork Studio in 1993; which is still providing yoga classes to this day. She then completed another 500-hour Hatha Yoga Training with YogaWorks and become YogaWorks certified. She received her Yoga Therapy Rx Certificate from Loyola Marymount University, plus assisted Yoga Therapy at Venice Family Clinic for one year with Dr. Lori Fazzio. Megan worked as a Yoga Therapist at Orange County Pain and Wellness Center from 2010-2015. She has lead numerous weekend workshops and retreats to northern California and has visited India twice, home land of yoga. She currently teaches yoga and meditation in clinical settings, at Yoga Works and Be The Change Yoga.

Yoga Therapy with Megan utilizes strengthening exercises, stretching exercises, breathing exercises with meditation to increase sustainability, joy and creativity.She has a rich background specializing in functional restorative rehabilitation for patients on the mend from post-surgical procedures and physical therapy. She in joys mentoring Yoga Teachers, Yoga Therapists and Care Providers in the Health and Wellness Industry. Megan offers many workshops, meditation retreats and public speaking about meditations for mindfulness.
