In 1979 he was an advertising executive, plagued with chronic back pain and stress. His quest for relief led him to study Yoga and health in eleven countries and inspired his career change upon certification in India.
In 1980, Larry founded the Samata Yoga Center in Los Angeles and later earned a Master’s degree and a Doctorate in fitness education with an emphasis in Hatha Yoga from Pacific Western University. His background is in Psychology and he has also completed graduate work in Physical Therapy at Cal-State University at Long Beach. He was the U.S. representative to the first World Congress of Yoga in Montevideo, Uruguay, and has received Outstanding Achievement Awards for Yoga in Europe and the United States, and the Golden Lotus Award from South America. Robert Birnberg, C-IAYT
For several decades I studied with TKV Desikachar and his senior students, receiving an in-depth education on the techniques and underlying principles of Yoga Therapy. Noticing the parallels between Yoga and Positive Psychology, I became a Certified P.P. Coach working to integrate proven Positive Psychology interventions with the time tested tools of classical Yoga Therapy. For over 25 years, as clinical director of the Breathing Space in Los Angeles, I offered ongoing Sutras Studies, Yoga Teacher trainings, and workshops on Bhavana, Relationships, Addiction and Positive Psychology, I’ve facilitated private Yoga Coaching sessions with hundreds of individuals and couples looking to manifest deeply meaningful lives and satisfying relationships. My first book, ‘Why Yoga Works, and How It Can Work For You’ is currently being used as a teacher training manual by Yoga studios worldwide.
