2/20 Yoga Sutras Course

To explore and understand the totality of yoga’s teachings, serious students and teachers must study the Yoga Sutras. It will change your life.
Class lectures provide an introduction to the primary yoga therapy assessment models based upon the teachings of the Yoga Sutras and the lineage of T. Krishnamacharya. Students will learn how to use these models to assess client imbalances, identify contraindications and implement appropriate tools based on client assessments. You will learn broad strokes yoga therapy practices for conditions that include: low back ailments, heart disease, respiratory/energetic imbalances, addiction, digestive ailments, and relationship issues.
The only course of its kind in Orange County! Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras remains the single most important text on Yoga. Composed over 2,300 years ago, the Sutras present Yoga as a complete system of spiritual psychology. This great work offers profound insights on the nature of the mind, as well as a pharmacopeia of suggestions for reducing suffering and cultivating More Sustained Joy. Familiarity with the Sutras is essential for the most effective practice of Yoga, a deeper understanding of Yoga psychology, and honoring this ancient wisdom provided by India. Studying these timeless truths with a qualified teacher (one with whom you resonate) is a journey deep into the human heart and mind.
This section provides a comprehensive perspective of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras as an influential work on yoga philosophy and guidelines for therapeutic practice. By studying the source text of Yoga through the lens of yoga therapy, trainees will gain an understanding of the causes of suffering, the nature of the mind, and myriad tools available to the yoga therapist. In the Krishnamacharya lineage, the teachings outlined in the Yoga Sutras are presented with a therapeutic lens to assist clients in achieving their health-related goals. Trainees will learn the proper application of tools based on the teachings of T. Krishnamacharya that can be used in yoga therapy sessions with their clients as well as the parameters to apply such tools.
This in-depth course will present a majority of the four Chapters of the Yoga Sutras and will discuss the different levels of meaning in each sutra and the various applications which follow from each interpretation. This course is open to the public, for those who would like to learn more about Yoga philosophy and how to integrate it into daily life. This course is also included in our 300 hour Yoga Teacher Training Program. Yoga Teachers can complete all four chapters and apply the 30 hours to their certification.

Kelsey Delane, E-RYT 500, Yoga Therapist in Training, is a Yoga Mentor & Reiki Master who guides fellow Yogis & Yoga Teachers toward more sustained joy using time-tested, practical tools. She is especially enthusiastic about teaching the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali through one on one mentorship, online platforms, and in-person workshops. Kelsey also shares her love of Yoga by training upcoming teachers throughout Orange County, working with teen girls through UPLIFT Yoga Foundation, and working with pre and postnatal students.
Kelsey has over 1000 hours of formal training ranging from power yoga to trauma informed yoga which equip her with a wide range of tools for meeting her students where they are in the journey. She believes that the key to optimal health is balance, and strives to live this out in the way she cares for her body, mind and relationships. When she is not teaching or practicing Yoga, you’ll find Kelsey curled up with a book alongside her husband, daughters, and sweet pup, Cooper.
