How does Yoga Therapy work?
Yoga therapists utilize tools such as physical postures (asana), breathing practices (pranayama), meditation (dhyana), visualization practices (bhavana), as well as diet, lifestyle, relationship and self-care practices, creating customized treatment plans to meet the unique needs of the student.
Yoga therapy views each person as a multi-dimensional human being, where ones current health status is a combination of interacting physical, mental, emotional, energetic, lifestyle and relationship factors. Thus yoga therapists are skilled in assessing and treating imbalances on all of these levels.
Our yoga therapist training program is divided into 3 levels over a 3.3 year period.
Level 1 Courses
Trainees will start with the Level 1 Courses; which comprise the foundation of the Yoga Therapist Training. These courses are made up of 18 full (15-hour) weekends, taken over a 13 month period. To receive the RYT500 Certification participants must complete all the necessary hours within a 2-year period, as well as all required assignments.
The yoga therapy component within our Level 1 / 300hr Teacher Training Program courses, classes, instructions, and materials is derived from the Educational Standards of the International Association of Yoga Therapists, and is not derived from any status granted by the Yoga Alliance Registry.
Yoga therapist trainees must enroll in Level 1 Courses during their first year and if trainee has demonstrated mastery of the material, he / she will be eligible for enrollment in Levels 2 and 3; which consists of a 27-month 550 hour program that starts every March. Together all the Level 1 courses are the equivalent of an RYT 500.
